Excluded ICD-10 codes are diagnoses or conditions that cannot be reported with a specific primary code (Excludes 1). They can also be reported together but need extra codes (Excludes 2).
Excludes 1: These codes are mutually exclusive with the primary code. Using both on the same claim is incorrect.
Excludes 1: Code J02.0 Excludes 1 Code J06.9 means you can’t report J02.0 and J06.9 together.
Excludes 2: While the excluded condition is not included in the primary code, it can coexist. In this case, you must use additional codes to accurately represent the patient’s condition.
Excludes 2: Code L27.2 Excludes 2 Code L23.6 means L27.2 and L23.6 are separate conditions, and if L23.6 is present, it requires an additional code.
